SALLIE FORD AND THE SOUND OUTSIDE – Cage

So we saw this post about Sally ford and The Sound Outside over at Side One Track Two, and we could not agree more. Article Below.

A friend of mine recently sat me down and said, “Trevor, you have to listen to this!”

So I did.

And by the end of the song, I was silent because my jaw was firmly planted on the floor.

First off,  lead singer Sallie Ford has one of the most naturally raw sounding voices that I’ve heard in ages.   It sounds like a cross between an angry Billie Holiday and a more feminine Tom Waits.  Just pure weathered passion.

And then there’s the music which has been described as a combination of everything from roots rock, blues, rockabilly, and my favourite, “two-step big beat gospel”.  It will have you tapping your feet and wanting to tear down a barn all within seconds of the opening verse.

Top that all off with one of the best band names this side of He’s My Brother, She’s My Sister, and this Portland, Oregon based band deserves to be talked about and shared.

You’ll just need to pick up your jaw so you can do that.
