It never fails to tickle my heart when a creative Oklahoma talent starts to gain momentum with his or her respective career.
JD McPherson has been moving and shaking in more ways than one since Rounder Records re-released his excellent indie album “Signs & Signifiers” earlier this year.
Here’s an indication of the momentum the Broken Arrow singer/guitarist is experiencing: A week ago, the video for his rollicking single “North Side Gal” was closing in on 800,000 views. Today, it has more than 813,000 YouTube views. The former art teacher directed the video himself.
McPherson launches Friday his fall tour that includes stops in Chicago, Kansas City, St. Louis, Cleveland, Detroit and Indianapolis. (Unfortunately, no Oklahoma dates have been announced at this time.) He was slated to be featured today on NPR’s “World Cafe” and will play Oct. 7 on NPR’s “Mountain Stage.”
In addition, McPherson recently recorded a four-song session with Daytrotter.com. According to Oklahoma Rock Newsblog, he is the 10th Oklahoma artist to be featured on Daytrotter: Evangelicals and Aqueduct both sessioned there in 2007, The Uglysuit in 2008, Starlight Mints in 2009, Samantha Crain in 2009 and 2010, Other Lives in 2009 and 2011, Colourmusic in 2010, Grooms in 2011 and Stardeath & White Dwarfs earlier this year.
