There’s No School Like Old School: Schorem Haarsnijder En Barbier

Schorem Haarsnijder En Barbier by Dirk The Pixeleye Behlau (1)by Sad Man’s Tongue, Photos by Dirk “The Pixeleye” Behlau

Photographer Dirk “The Pixeleye” Behlau from Bonn, Germany knows his stuff when it comes to Kustom Kulture. He also knows the best place to get a real haircut.

Dirk’s amazing way of pulling you in with his photography is highlighted even in the majority of these photos. Most, void of people, still pull you into a scene where you wish you could be. The inanimate objects take on a character of their own as they remind us of memories of what was and more importantly what still exists.

Schorem Haarsnijder En Barbier by Dirk The Pixeleye Behlau (11)The Shorem Barber Shop & Hair Salon located in Rotterdam, is a men only old school barbershop specialized in traditional haircuts and hot towel shaves. With a crew of real hepcats these guys have reinvented the barber in a world dominated by salons that have no idea what a men’s cut is. We know, because often we leave with the hair on our head cut, but our nose, ear, and neck hair remains.

What was an old school art has resurfaced for a new school of gents. I mean when is the last time you had a hot towel shave by a straight razor? I am sure most of you have said never. I never even saw my dad have one. The closest I can come is I have my great grandfathers straight razor, but other than that, only in the movies my friends.

We have a whole new reason to go to the Netherlands now, and for sure we are going for this special experience. WHile we hope these guys continue to bring old traditions in to a new light, we also hope this catches on and others pop up as well, perhaps some day in Prague
